A Playdate With Emergency Services

Friday 6 November, 5.30 to 7pm
Ocean Grove Park
Free, with a free community BBQ

Join us for a relaxed evening where local families can meet the emergency services crews who look after our community. Kids are welcome to climb aboard the vehicles with a grown-up, try on a helmet and ask the crews whatever they’re curious about, while parents, grandparents and carers can chat with the people behind the uniforms and pick up some practical ideas for getting their household ready for summer.

The idea comes from the Playdates with Emergency Services that NSW SES teams have been running on the NSW South Coast since the Black Summer fires. They’ve found that when children meet crews on a calm, fun evening, a fire truck or ambulance becomes something familiar rather than frightening. We’d love the same for our kids here on the Bellarine.

We’re keeping it simple, with no stalls or fundraising and just time together as a community. We’ll also have copies of Charlie’s Birthday Adventure to share, a children’s book that helps little ones understand bushfire preparedness in a gentle way.

Crews may need to leave if they’re called out, so we ask for everyone’s understanding on the night.

Bring the kids, the grandkids or the little ones you care for, and come along to say hello.
